Lab Testing & InBody
Learn how lab results and body composition measurements fit into your health goals.
Lab Testing
Lab work shows us what’s happening inside your body, often before symptoms appear. At Idaho Frontier Wellness, we use labs to look for root causes, track your progress, and personalize your care. Your blood is drawn right here in our Homedale office, and every package includes a provider review of your results.
Using Insurance for Labs
Labs can be billed to your insurance. Coverage is not guaranteed. Whether your insurance pays, and how much you owe, depends on several things:
Coverage and payment details
Medical necessity: Insurance usually covers labs only when they’re tied to a symptom, diagnosis, or condition being monitored. Many plans don’t cover wellness or screening labs ordered without a medical reason.
Your deductible: If you haven’t met your deductible, you may owe the full insurance-billed cost of your labs, which can be higher than our cash prices.
Copays and coinsurance: Even after your deductible is met, you may owe a percentage of the cost.
How often a test is done: Many plans limit certain tests, such as vitamin D or A1c, to a set number per year.
Plan exclusions: Some tests are considered specialty or non-covered by most plans. Examples are kryptopyrroles, whole blood histamine, and some hormone and cardiac markers.
Lab network: Your plan may only cover labs processed by certain laboratories.
For Medicare patients, we may ask you to sign an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) before drawing a test Medicare may not cover. That way you’ll know ahead of time that you could be responsible for the cost.
We recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card to ask about lab coverage before your visit.
Self-Pay Lab Packages
If you don’t have insurance, our discounted lab packages offer simple, upfront pricing. Every package includes the blood draw and a review of your results with your provider.
Self-pay lab pricing is for patients without insurance. For Medicare and Medicaid patients, medically necessary labs are billed to your coverage as required by law.
Weight Loss Panel
$100
Who it’s for: Anyone starting a weight loss, blood sugar, or lifestyle program who wants a baseline.
Included tests & details for Weight Loss Panel
CBC (Complete Blood Count): Checks red cells, white cells, and platelets. It can show anemia, infection, or inflammation.
CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel): Checks blood sugar, kidney and liver function, electrolytes, and protein levels.
Lipid Panel: Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides.
Hemoglobin A1c: Your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months. It’s used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes.
Fasting Insulin: Shows how hard your body is working to control blood sugar. It can reveal insulin resistance years before blood sugar rises.
Simplified Wellness Panel
$225
Who it’s for: Adults who want a solid yearly check-up, or anyone with fatigue, low energy, or general “something’s off” symptoms.
Included tests & details for Simplified Wellness Panel
Includes CBC, CMP, lipid panel, and hemoglobin A1c, plus:
Ferritin: Your body’s iron stores. Low ferritin is a common, often-missed cause of fatigue, hair loss, and poor exercise tolerance.
TSH + Free T4: Screens how well your thyroid is working. Thyroid problems can affect energy, weight, mood, and temperature regulation.
Vitamin B12 & Folate: Needed for energy, nerve health, and making red blood cells. Low levels are common in plant-based eaters, older adults, and people on metformin or acid-reducing medications.
Vitamin D: Supports bones, immunity, and mood. Deficiency is very common in Idaho, especially in winter.
Metabolic Wellness Panel
$375
Who it’s for: Our most complete panel. It’s for people with weight resistance, chronic fatigue, blood sugar concerns, thyroid symptoms, stress, or anyone wanting a full root-cause picture.
Included tests & details for Metabolic Wellness Panel
Includes everything in the Simplified Wellness Panel, plus:
Fasting Insulin: Detects early insulin resistance.
Free T3: The active thyroid hormone. It helps show whether your body is converting thyroid hormone well.
TPO Antibodies: Screens for Hashimoto’s, the most common cause of low thyroid.
Cortisol: Your main stress hormone. It can be high or low with chronic stress, poor sleep, or adrenal issues.
Iron + TIBC: Gives a fuller picture of iron status alongside ferritin.
Men’s Hormone Panel
$175
Who it’s for: Men with low energy, low libido, decreased strength or muscle mass, mood changes, or poor recovery.
Included tests & details for Men’s Hormone Panel
Total & Free Testosterone: Total testosterone, plus the amount your body can actually use.
Estradiol (E2): Men need some estrogen, but high levels can cause symptoms and affect testosterone balance.
SHBG: A protein that binds hormones. It affects how much testosterone is available.
DHEA-S: An adrenal hormone and building block for other hormones. It’s linked to energy and resilience.
PSA: A prostate health screen. If results are elevated, additional testing is run automatically.
Women’s Hormone Panel
$150
Who it’s for: Women with irregular cycles, PMS, perimenopause or menopause symptoms, fertility questions, hot flashes, low libido, or mood changes.
Included tests & details for Women’s Hormone Panel
FSH & LH: Brain signals that control the ovaries. They help assess cycle health, fertility, and menopause status.
Estradiol (E2): The main estrogen. It affects cycles, bone health, mood, and sleep.
Progesterone: Balances estrogen, supports sleep and mood, and confirms ovulation.
Total Testosterone: Women need testosterone too, for energy, libido, and muscle. High levels may point toward PCOS.
DHEA-S: An adrenal hormone. It can be high in PCOS or low with chronic stress.
Timing matters: if you still have a cycle, we’ll help you schedule your draw on the right day for accurate results.
Heart Health Add-On
$185
Who it’s for: People with a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, or high blood pressure, or anyone wanting a deeper look at heart risk beyond a standard cholesterol test.
Included tests & details for Heart Health Add-On
hs-CRP: Measures low-level inflammation linked to heart disease.
Homocysteine: An amino acid that can damage blood vessels when elevated. It’s often related to B12, folate, and B6 status.
Lipoprotein(a): An inherited cholesterol particle that raises heart risk. Most people only need it checked once in their life.
ApoB: Counts the cholesterol particles that can build up in arteries. Many experts consider it a better predictor of risk than LDL alone.
ApoA-1: The main protein in HDL (“good” cholesterol).
Mental Health & Nutrient Panel (Walsh Approach)
$375
Who it’s for: Patients interested in a nutrient-focused approach to mood, anxiety, focus, or behavior, used alongside the Walsh nutrient therapy approach.
Included tests & details for Mental Health & Nutrient Panel (Walsh Approach)
Whole Blood Histamine: Used to assess methylation patterns, which affect brain chemistry.
Copper & Zinc: Key minerals for brain and nervous system function. Their balance matters as much as their individual levels.
Ceruloplasmin: The protein that carries copper. It helps show how well copper is being used.
Urine Kryptopyrroles: A specialty urine test used in the Walsh approach to assess zinc and B6 needs.
These are specialty tests and are rarely covered by insurance.
Hepatitis C Screening
$35
Who it’s for: The CDC recommends that all adults be screened at least once. If the result is positive, a confirmation test is run automatically.

Need a Different Test?
Almost any lab test can be ordered on request, as long as your provider agrees it’s clinically appropriate. Ask us for a price before your draw. As with all labs, insurance coverage is not guaranteed.
Before Your Lab Draw
Fasting: Most panels require fasting for 8–12 hours. Water and prescribed medications are fine unless we tell you otherwise.
Morning draws are best for hormone and cortisol testing.
Biotin (vitamin B7) can interfere with several tests, especially thyroid tests. Stop biotin-containing supplements 2–3 days before your draw.
